Memorandum on the Abduction of Zakir Majeed Baloch
by Family Members Of Zakir Majeed Baloch
Zakir Majeed Baloch, 27, and a Master’s student
in English from Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water
and Marine Sciences, was abducted by Pakistan’s intelligence
agencies from Mastung Balochistan, on 8th of
June, 2009. He was abducted while he was on
his way from Parangabad market to a friend Waheed Baloch’s
house. Waheed Baloch and Basit Baloch are eye witnesses
this incident. The eyewitness’s accounts have also
been published by Asian Human Rights Commission’s
webpage. It says:
“His alleged abductors drove up
in two cars without number plates and asked the
young man a few questions, saying that they were
intelligence agents. They took Majeed away with
them in their cars without making any charges.
One car was a Toyota Vego, the other a Toyota
Surf SSR.”
Zakir Majeed was a human rights activist and
was working to raise the voice for the thousands of other
innocent Balochs who have been abducted by the intelligence
agencies of Pakistan and against the grosshuman rights
abuses committed by Pakistani occupied Balochistan.
Zakir also raised his voice for the United Nation’s
official John Solecki to get him released when he was
abducted, his support for the cause of John Solecki’s
release was on humanitarian basis and the this was the
primary reason that Zakir Majeed himself got abducted
by the Pakistan’s agencies as they didn’t
wanted John Solecki to be released so that Baloch movement
could have been presented as a terrorist movement by
Pakistan. After the release of John Solecki, Pakistan
reacted by punishing the main characters working for
John Solecki’s release, murdering Baloch leader
Ghulaam Muhammed and abducting Zakir Majeed. Zakir Majeed
was raising his voice against the atrocities being committed
by Pakistan. It is clearly stated in the Article 19 of Universal
Declaration of Human Rights:
“Everyone has the right to freedom
of opinion and expression; this right includes
freedom to hold opinions without interference
and to seek, receive and impart information and
ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
Its been a year since Zakir Majeed
was abducted and his whereabouts are still unknown.
After the United Nations Working Group on
Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID)
took up Zakir Majeed’s case, Pakistan by
National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) falsely
announced that Zakir Majeed has been released
on 22nd January 2010. Pakistan, in order
to hide the human rights abuses, has been deliberately
trying to mystify Zakir’s case. As Asian
Human Rights Commission states regarding
the false claims of Pakistan:
“The Asian Human Rights Commission urges
the provincial government of Balochistan and federal
government of Pakistan to secure the safe
release of Mr. Zakir Majeed immediately. Since
government officials have already confirmed Mr.
Majeed’s safe release, we call upon these
officials to be held accountable for these confirmations
of safety, and urge these officials to take direct
action to reunite Mr. Majeed with his family.”
We are extremely concerned about the safety of Zakir
Majeed, who is being held in the secret torture cells
of Pakistani establishment, and we fear that Zakir’s
life is in under serious threats until he is not surfaced
or released by Pakistan. Zakir Majeed and all the other
Balochs living in occupied Balochistan are too entitled
to all the rights mentioned in Universal Declaration
of Human Rights as it states in its Article 2, and
we call upon United Nations to immediately
intervene in Balochistan and bring an end to the gross
human rights abuses being committed in Balochistan, to
compel Pakistan to end the occupation of Balochistan
and to halt the war crimes that it’s
committing in Balochistan, and to release Zakir Majeed
or present him in the court of law and try him in accordance
with the International laws. We believe that all
the members of United Nations are morally obliged to
compel Pakistan to end the human rights abuses in
Balochistan, as
“recognition of the inherent dignity
and of the equal and inalienable rights of
all members of the human family is the foundation
of freedom, justice and peace in the world”.
